Exhausting
Her eyes shuttered, as the wisp of pain briefly crossed her delicate face. Confusion swallowing her mind while her body is agonizing over well-honed movements. When, when did this all become normal, her mind desperately grasping for a distraction, any distraction.
Suddenly, without warning, her eyes slammed shut as her mind gave way to the tsunami of pain coursing through her veins.
Silently she shrieks, ahhhhh-uuuughhhhh, giving way to nothingness as the pain withers away like a snake striking and retreating back into the tall brush.
Moments have passed, yet her mind can not grasp its length. Was it seconds, minutes, or? Her mind kicks and sputters to regain control of a ship sent severely off course.
Slowly, the blank slate which now occupies her mind settles upon feeling nothing. Yet, if she listens carefully, in the background ever so faintly, her body seems to have a low whirl whispering to her. What, the? Her mind zigging and zagging, desperately grasping for clues. Answers can not come fast enough. Yet she feels like a snail mindlessly meandering to its destination. In the distance, ever so faint, there is a thump-thump-thump. A glimpse of recognition washes over her. The music is the music of her body. A sense of relief gently washes over, as the visceral pounding of her heart lightly tickles her ears.
In a burst of realization, her mantra rattles her brain. It’s fine; I’m fine; I mean, everything is fine.
It is over, it is done.
Softly in her ear, a seemingly faint whisper, unaware of the turbulent sea of emotion she endured, encourages her.
That voice is the voice of her personal trainer, chanting upon high, heaps of praises on a wonderfully accomplished set of exercises.
Breathing again, healthy and safe, ahhhhhhh.
Then like a frigid wind from the North on an already frozen day, the trainer asks, “Ready of another set?”
