Get WHY and Supercharge Habits into a Lifestyle
We had a client train with us for years. She was no slacker, and she dug into her workouts. Through it all, the shell of her body never seemed to change.
Curious, one day, we asked, “Why are you training?”
And she looked at us, with that deer in the headlights look, and said, “Honestly, I don’t know.”
Wait, what?
Getting Past Status Quo
How true is it that many of us don’t know. Or maybe we do, and we don’t want to acknowledge it, even to ourselves.
There can be reasons why we won’t determine our why. By addressing these, please don’t allow them to be a roadblock to your super self.
- If we put a WHY out there, then we might fail. And we won’t change to what we desire to be.
- Change brings, well, change. And we are uncomfortable with the unknown. We can minimize this by adding feelings of accomplishment. (See Step 3 below)
- Or previous lousy experience where change did not turn out well for you. You are not in the same place as the last outcome. Half this battle is keeping positive.
Transformation
- Step 0 – Getting past staying as is. The benefits of the change outweigh keeping the status quo.
- Step 1 – What is important about being [healthy & fit] for you? [we use fitness, as an example]
- Step 2 – Why do you desire the change? What makes it vital for you? Here is the kicker, the why doesn’t even need to be impactful. Only, it has to be important to you.
- Step 3 – Reflect on what is important about being [your desired outcome] and then feel yourself accomplishing it.
Like the hardest part of the gym workout, it is getting to the parking lot. The hardest part of changing the habit to a lifestyle is solidifying your why.
Back to our client, though it took her some time, once she determined her why she was on a mission. By establishing her why, she created a fitness and nutrition lifestyle that serves her to this day.
