Sinus Rinse
NeilMed Sinus Rinse
review page blurb:
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read) – For relief from Sinus issues use NeilMed Sinus Rinse
Long Version –
For many years, I suffered a “stuffy” nose. The kind of chronically stuffy nose where you can never blow enough and it always seemed clogged. In fact, I had two deviated septum surgeries to “correct” this issue, to no avail.
About seven years ago I was introduced to the NeilMed Sinus Rinse, and my life has changed for the better. Once I started using NeilMed, I immediately was able to start breathing through my nose.
Before NeilMed, I was a closet picker. I did not realize until later that the unintended consequences were that I would be continually stuffing germs up my nose, compounding the problem.
So using this product on a regular basis not only allowed me to breathe; but resulted in sickness (mainly colds) becoming a rare occurrence.
Why?
When you specifically flush out your sinuses, the irritants are reduced and then the nasal membrane stays moist. Additionally, the body will produce less mucus so the sinuses can drain normally. The packet ingredients are natural (saline & baking soda) and PH balanced so as not to irritate the nasal cavity. This allows you to use it daily.
Within a few minutes of flushing, sinus symptoms typically begin to diminish. Side effects are minimal compared to decongestant medicines which may cause jitters, heart racing, sleeping issues, complications, & possibly addiction.

How to use
General Instructions:
- Wash and dry your hands.
- Check that the device is clean and completely dry.
- Prepare the saline rinse with warmer water and pour the prepared mixture supplied with the device
- Leaning over a sink, tilt your head sideways with your forehead and chin roughly level to avoid liquid flowing into your mouth.
- Breathing through your open mouth, insert the spout of the saline-filled container into your upper nostril so that the liquid drains through the lower nostril.
- Clear your nostrils. Then repeat the procedure, tilting your head sideways, on the other side.
- Wash the device, and dry the inside with a paper towel or let it air dry between uses.
My Experience Instructions (See Concerns Below)
- Get my air-dried bottle and fill with hot to the touch tap water
- Pour in the packet
- Put finger on top and shake to mix solution
- Set bottle to the side in the shower
- Clean up, then brush teeth in the shower, this may cause some mucus to flow (spit out)
- Mouth open, tongue to roof, lean over, push about 1/2 bottle through one side
- Spit out mucus & blow nose
- Repeat the other side
- Usually, a little bit of solution is left in the bottle so I go back to the first nostril for final flush
Some Notes on My Experience
- I like to use a few times a week to prevent infections
- I prefer my water close to body temperature…water in bottle doesn’t feel cold and is slightly warm
- Cold / cooler water flushes are a horrible experience and I gag the whole time
- Sometimes the sinuses are swollen and the solution will remain in the nasal cavity, so if you lean over later some solution may drain out
- If I have an active infection, I try and flush twice a day
- I know it is active because the flush stings
- If you only flush when you have an infection, it will an unpleasant experience and are unlikely to get to frequent flushes and the long-term benefits
Concerns (Everything you do has a Reward/Risk):
- With an active infection, the flush may/probably sting or burn
- Tap water may contain low-level organisms which could lead to infection (use distilled or sterile water)
- Small percentage of regular users develop nasal irritation
- If this happens, consider reducing rinses from daily to a few times a week
- Those with immune system diseases are at great risk of infections and should consult their healthcare provider first
Why this product
It is a natural solution that works. Additionally, it is reportedly much safer for you than using decongestant medicine and less invasive than deviated septum surgery.
